How Jason Kelce got a luchador mask at Super Bowl after party, and how it'll get back home

Jason Kelce went viral after Super Bowl 58 for donning a luchador mask at an after party. But after a family pleaded to have the mask return to its home, the Philadelphia Eagles center says he is making sure it gets back to its rightful place.

After the Kansas City Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers to win their second consecutive Super Bowl title, Kelce was at an after party at a club on the Las Vegas Strip alongside brother Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift. There, clips emerged of the Chiefs tight end and the popstar sharing intimate moments together, and the elder Kelce having the time of his life dancing on the stage in a luchador mask.

"It really didn't start getting to the next level until I found that luchador mask," Kelce said on the "New Heights" podcast. "There's something about finding that luchador mask that really just transformed the night."

How did Jason Kelce get the luchador mask?

Kelce said on the podcast he found the mask on the dance floor of the first after party he and his brother went to, trying to find people from his hometown of Cleveland Heights, Ohio.

"I left a little VIP area to go find those guys, and en route, saw something on the floor that was being trampled over," he said. "I picked it up and right away I was like, 'Oh, hell yes.' "

Kelce said he kept the mask and took it back to the hotel, but couldn't remember if he had packed it to bring it back home.

Texas family ask for luchador mask back

With Kelce seemingly in possession of the mask, an eighth grader from Texas told NBC Dallas-Fort Worth it was his mask. Elijah Smith from Dallas told the outlet he gave Kelce the mask and he dropped it before picking it back up. Smith and Kelce took a picture together as Kelce danced.

Smith and his friend tried to follow Kelce, but it was too crowded. Now, Smith and his family are asking for the mask back because it is a good luck charm to him. Smith's family said the mask has made it to the Chiefs' four most recent Super Bowl appearances, and Chiefs cornerback Trent McDuffie had signed it after winning Super Bowl 57 last season.

"The only thing is, Jason if you're listening, we just need the mask back before the season starts. Because it's a lucky mask, and so the Chiefs need the luck. I'm sorry we're not Eagles fans," father Thad Smith said.

Jason Kelce to get mask back to family

After the Smiths' story was published on Thursday, Kelce said on social media Friday that "Operation 'Get Elijah His Mask Back' is underway."

"I appreciate everyone bringing this to my attention, and look forward to uniting Elijah with his mask once again. Your mask indeed brings great fortune, I owe you big time, sorry it was commandeered," Kelce said.

Kelce didn't clarify if he had the mask or how he is getting it back to Smith, but the teen did say if he does get it back, it would be "pretty cool" if he signed it before returning it.
